What is the Feast of Hope?

2020 is the 24th year for this event. The Feast is a Thanksgiving Day meal that will serve some ~1,000 meals this year to the community. The dinners are served to those who come to the church for the feast, and several hundred meals are also delivered to residents of homeless shelters, special needs housing programs, and home-bound senior citizens.

How Will Things be Done with the Pandemic?

After careful and prayerful thought, and with consideration for appropriate pandemic safeguards, the planning team has decided to go forward with this community event. The menu will be simplified and while delivery of meals will happen as usual, there will be NO sit-down service. Rather, we will deliver take-out boxes to agencies and individuals as we have done in the past and provide take-out boxes for any individuals and families who come to the church. NOTE: there will be no clothing pantry this year.

We will be strictly adhering to COVID-19 guidelines for spacing and congregating, masking, sanitizing, etc. within and without the church facility as we prepare and serve the meals. You will be required to have your temperature scanned and sign in so we have all contact information in case it is needed later.

What Help is Needed?

Cash donations are very important this year. Buying the food is expensive, e.g., turkeys cost ~$1.79 per pound and we need 65 this year. Click on this button to buy a turkey or two or other food. We could use your help. Due to the pandemic, we are not accepting any food donations.

Volunteers are critical the week of Thanksgiving and on Thanksgiving Day! We will need volunteers to get all the work done. See the next section.

Scheduling the Week of Thanksgiving

Due to the pandemic and the need to limit the numbers of people in the church at one time, scheduling will be critical. Therefore, we will require volunteers to sign up for shifts in advance. In November, there will be a Feast of Hope schedule on the La Mesa website. From there you can access a signup page with times and numbers of people for each timeframe. Each person will need to be signed up individually. If you sign up, please, come! With limited people allowed in the church, we will not have any extra people to float where needed as we have in the past. If you sign up then determine you cannot make it, let us know as soon as possible!
